About the Alexander Technique

Our pain is actually not the problem but our full-automatic, fear based reactions to the pain is what gets us in trouble.

The alexander technique (AT) is a practical self-help method. A mental and physical awareness process that you can use in all your daily activities – from doing the dishes to playing music to sitting at your PC.

The AT is a non-doing method to bring you back to your natural balance, alignment and flow by stepping out of the way of your habitual thinking, your preconceived, limiting believes about yourself, your body, your dis-ease, your pain, whether it be physically, mentally, emotionally or a combination of them.

The only thing needed is an open and curious mind that is willing to experiment.

To experiment means: I don’t need to get it right but I want to know where I’m in the way of natural flow and balance!

An empowering acceptance/ welcoming of what seems to be, without fighting, analysing or judging it, just a willingness to be curious and to question if what we think is the problem is maybe not the problem at all but actually a symptom of a much broader problem that is effecting every aspect of our life.

The AT is a beautiful way of taking a step back and becoming the observer, rather than being identified as the seeming problem so that our system can organize us for us.

About me

Liesbeth Houdijk

Liesbeth studied full-time for three years at the Alexander Technique Center Amsterdam. She graduated in June 1999. She is a STAT (the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique) certified teacher and is a member of the Dutch Association of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (NeVLAT). She is still commited to learning and growth and has been refining her technique since 2020 with Mio Morales (primal Alexander).
